A project merging art and writing. Set to run until 2025, this initiative fosters a unique collaboration between 10 female visual artists and 10 female writers.
DUBLĂ EXPUNERE. EMPOWERED BY BCR
Within this endeavour, each writer is tasked with crafting a compelling short story inspired by contemporary artwork. These narratives will find their place within a dynamic hybrid catalogue, combining written and visual elements. Moreover, the project will extend its reach through engaging podcast episodes and public events featuring esteemed artists and writers, culminating in a captivating exhibition.
The project, possible with the support of BCR, explores the symbiotic relationship between art and writing, illuminating fresh perspectives on contemporary culture. Through this fusion, DUBLĂ EXPUNERE aims to foster a deeper understanding of how these mediums intersect and influence one another, ultimately enriching our cultural landscape.

The podcast component of the DUBLĂ EXPUNERE project features 22 episodes, including an introductory episode and a concluding summary, running until March 2025. Each episode highlights a writer or artist involved in the project, offering personal insights into the dynamics of art and writing. These conversations explore how contemporary artwork influences storytelling and vice versa, illuminating the symbiotic relationship between the two mediums and providing fresh perspectives on contemporary culture. Ioana Pârvulescu - writer
In episode number 11, we have as a guest Ioana Pârvulescu, one of the ten writers participating in the project. Together, we will explore visual art, literature, and how the two intersect. Ioana Pârvulescu teaches modern Romanian literature at the University of Bucharest. She was an editor at România literară for 18 years, where she wrote weekly. At Humanitas Publishing House, she initiated and coordinated the collection "The Book from the Nightstand." In 2013, she received the European Union Prize for Literature.

Having served as an editor at Literary Romania for 18 years, she played a vital role in shaping literary discourse and, at Humanitas Publishing House, she initiated and coordinated the "Book on the Nightstand" collection. Her contributions to literature were recognized in 2013 when she was awarded the European Union Prize for Literature. Parallel to her influence, Larisa Sitar’s artistic practice delves into the evolution of social and cultural values amid political movements, socio-economic changes, technological advances, and our relationship with the natural world. Sitar’s projects thoughtfully blend a diverse array of techniques, merging technical and digital processes with traditional and analog forms. Simona Popescu, a distinguished professor at the Faculty of Letters at the University of Bucharest, and Geta Brătescu, a renowned figure in Romanian contemporary art, exemplify the dynamic synergy between literary and visual arts. Popescu, who specializes in avant-garde, postmodernism, and experimental literature, has been honored with prestigious awards for her poetry, with her works being accessible to a broader audience through translations. Brătescu's vast and varied artistic legacy, encompassing drawing, collage, and performance, reflects a lifelong commitment to innovation. Together, through Ivan Gallery, which carries on Brătescu's legacy, Popescu and Brătescu’s contributions bridge literary and visual narratives, expanding the horizons of cultural expression and continuing to inspire new generations.

Tatiana Țîbuleac, who made her literary debut in 2014 with "Fabule Moderne" (Modern Tales), has since captured the hearts of readers with her acclaimed first novel, "Vara în care mama a avut ochii verzi" (The Summer When My Mother Had Green Eyes), published in 2017 by Cartier Publishing House. This poignant work has earned multiple awards and has been translated into both French and Spanish, showcasing its widespread appeal. In a parallel realm of artistic exploration, Sigalit Landau, a multi-disciplinary artist, creates intricate works that encompass drawing, sculpture, video, and performance art. Addressing profound societal, historical, and ecological themes, Landau's large-scale in situ installations often incorporate materials such as salt, sugar, paper, and ready-made objects, transforming spaces and inviting viewers to engage with her thought-provoking concepts. Together, Țîbuleac and Landau's contributions reflect a rich dialogue between literature and visual art, each challenging and enriching the cultural landscape.
